Yesterday, we had the honor of welcoming Rick McCallum, the producer of the Star Wars prequel triology, to the Prague Film Institute. From the moment we announced his visit, we anticipated a large turnout, but the crowd exceeded our expectations. Surprisingly, instead of a sea of fans in Darth Vader T-shirts and wielding lightsabers, the audience consisted mainly of students and professionals eager to learn about film production — a delightful surprise!
Rick’s stories and advice led to an engaging discussion, filled with inspiration and practical insights. Rick generously answered questions about what it takes to manage such a monumental project, sharing fascinating behind-the-scenes details. “The job of a producer is to provide directors with all the resources to express themselves.” Topics ranged from coordinating large film crews and managing budgets to overcoming unexpected challenges during production.
Program leader Robin Kašpařík, who had invited Rick to the event, also took on the role of moderator, seamlessly guiding the discussion from the very begining to the end of the evening. The relaxed and friendly atmosphere created the perfect environment for exchanging experiences and passion for filmmaking.
We’re grateful to everyone who attended and look forward to hosting more events like this in the future!
